Seven Locks Swim & Tennis Club
Winter 2013 Newsletter

Dear Members,

Now that spring is just around the corner, your Board of Directors is busy making plans for a great summer at Seven Locks Swim & Tennis Club!  Here are a few updates as you think about your family’s plans.  You can learn more about them on our freshly updated website, www.sevenlocks.org.

Mark your calendars for these activities:

Seven Locks General Meeting — Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30pm
The entire club membership is invited to the annual meeting at the Thibodeau home at 7722 Savannah Drive, Bethesda, where we will vote on 2013 budgets and fees.

Pool & Tennis Club Open House – Sunday, May 19, noon – 4pm.
Join us for our annual Open House as we get prepared for Opening Day!  Sign up for Swim & Dive team, bring you neighbors who are interested in joining, check in with your summer friends and get psyched for opening weekend festivities!

Opening Day & Memorial Day Party, Memorial Day Weekend
The pool officially opens for the summer on Saturday, May 25 at 11:00 am.  Be the first in the water this summer!  On Memorial Day, May 27, we’ll host our annual Memorial Day Tennis Social and pool-wide barbeque.

Sharks Club
Sharks Club is back this summer!  Kids ages 6 and up (who can swim a length of the pool) are welcome to spend the day hanging out with their friends enjoying the pool, playing tennis, participating in art projects and other activities.  Our activities directors will be experienced teachers and/or day care providers.  Sessions will be held the weeks of June 17, June 24, July 1, July 8 and July 15.  Kids can sign up for one or all weeks, and can stay 9am-5pm, or just a few hours.  The cost is $300/week, with an option to purchase lunch at the snack bar for $25/week.  More information and registration forms are available at www.sevenlocks.org/sharks-club/.

Swim Team
We are delighted to welcome back Mike Edwards as our head swim coach this season!  This year we will be competing in Division I.  NOW is the time to start thinking about becoming certified as an official – Stroke & Turn Judge, Starter or Referee.  Please visit the MCSL website at http://mcsl.org/Officials.aspx to find out specific dates for training, which starts in May.  We are also looking for volunteers to take on the Swim Team B Rep position.  Please contact us at sevenlockssharks@gmail.com if you are interested.  Finally, we are looking to add an additional Pre Team practice this summer.  Registration for swim team will open in early spring.  Hope to see you at the Open House on Sunday, May 19 and on the team this summer!

Dive Team
With our coaches returning and our discussions with the County to re-install a second board at the pool in its final stages, excitement is in the air for the dive team. With our planned fundraising we will be bringing on two junior coaches to assist our veteran coaches Tim Tolino and Ally Russo.

To expand opportunity for participation on the dive team we will be offering some morning dive practices along with the afternoon classes.  All this means more dive time for everyone to hone their skills, learn new dives and have fun while impressing friends and family!  Plan to come down and sign up for the 2013 dive season at the Open House on Sunday, May 19 from 12 to 4 pm.  You’re sure to meet new and old friends.  Practices begin the day after Memorial Day — Tuesday, May 28.  We’ll open up online registration for Dive Team in early spring.

Our meet schedule is out and our dual meet season begins June 16th and finishes July 14th with Divisionals on July 24 and All Stars on the 24 and 25th of July.  We will be hosting home meets on June 30 and July 7.

We are really looking forward to a fun season and we are, as always, grateful for the great support of the Club and our dive parents and families.

Tennis
The pool at Seven Locks has always been your summer destination for swimming.  But for those of you who wish to complement that with time on the tennis courts, we want to offer you a total tennis program that will complete your Seven Locks summer experience.  With the arrival last season of Nitin Deodhar’s Bethesda Tennis Academy and USTA certified teaching professional Emre Baris, we were pleased to offer Club members the opportunity to learn the game from one of the area’s most effective instructional programs.  Bethesda Tennis Academy has teaching seminars for both adults and children of all abilities; sessions begin as early as March and continue through October. Visit our website, www.sevenlocks.org/tennis/, for additional details on programs, dates, and prices.

In addition, our Tennis Socials on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day weekends are wonderful opportunities for our members to mix on the courts in casual competition.  We will also be looking to see if there is enough interest to form a team to join a local USTA or MCTA league.

Tennis at Seven Locks during 2013 promises to more exciting and dynamic than ever; we’ll keep you up to date on our website and via emails.

Online Dues Payment
This year, you will be able to pay your dues online via our new website, or continue to pay via check if you prefer.  We will open up online payment capability at the beginning of March, if not sooner.  In the meantime, if you have a chance, please log in to your Seven Locks account (your user name is the same as last year, probably your email address) and make sure your contact information is up to date.  Also, if you have a family membership, please make sure all of your children’s names are entered in to the system.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at Seven Locks this spring!
